In 1989, a group of Berkeley Unified School District students began
towork in cooperation towards maximum enjoyment of Grateful Dead shows
in Northern California. This psychedelic after-school-club helped to
bring its members to new heights of artistic appreciation. From 1990
until 1995,this ever expanding group of friends (many of whom had no
connection with the Berkeley Public School District) called themselves
the Berkeley High Contingent.
With the death of Jerry Garcia on August 9, 1995, and the move of a founding member to Amherst Mass., the group adopted the name The Gankmore Company.
Gankmore is derived from a the word Gank which was redefined by Derek Lu to encompass the following meaning:
1. (n) Gank - something which has a great potential for positively
reshaping one's mood. 2. (adj.) Ganky- having extraordinary qualities
The name Gankmore is a tribute to the San Francisco and New York clubs the Fillmore and Fillmore East. It is also the primary goal of our organization to Gank more.
It is the intent of the Gankmore Co. to
enable open communication between all members and continue to organize
our diverse talents in the open pursuit of fun.
