After this fiasco, the car was driven regularly around town, no big trips or hard driving, and to my surprise, the engine oil warning lamp came on after about 450 miles, indicating that the crankcase was down a quart. I did not think much of it, added a quart and sure enough, another 4-500 miles went by and it was down a quart again.

Remember- this engine had not consumed any oil whatsoever in nearly 7000 miles of hard driving, prior to this last round of service, and it immediately started sucking a quart every 4-500 miles thereafter!

Inquiries with the previous owner indicated he had never encountered any oil loss, either by leakage or burning during his 3 year history with the car.
